10-4=6

So last night was my 10th year going to a Warren Miller movie. When I was 13 John Meier invited me to go with him and the boys to some ski movie...i thought i was super cool because I never got invited to go to things like that, but i'd like to think my skills on the mountain at 13 got me the invite into the boys club. anyways it was the 50th anniversary that the LEGEND made a flick. it was love at first sight. i'd never been to a movie like that. or seen people ski like that.

clearly i was hooked.

10 years have passed and i went to Dynasty last night...the 60th movie. Since 50 warren has sold the production company and essentially left the movies. It's broken my heart. The movies are totally different and the witty humor and groundbreaking stuff has been lost. As Maddi and I were driving home last night I said that the past 4 years have been bad...but the first 6 were great. Which means that there's been more good than bad years. So I think I might stop. The tickets are way more expensive since back 10 years ago...and there aren't half as many prizes or free stuff.

In memory of Warren Miller here are some of his many great quotes:

"If you dont do it this year, you will be one year older when you do"

"Don't take life seriously because you can't come out of it alive."

"It's always darkest before the dawn, so if you're planning on stealing your neighbor's newspaper, that's the time to do it."

"It's not your aptitude but your attitude that determines your altitude."

"If at first you don't succeed, failure may be your thing."

"The best place in the world to ski is where you're skiing that day."

I think it's time to start collecting the old ones. but I will close this post the way he closed every movie:

See you next year, same time, same place

seasonal obsession

i have always loved pomegranates. always. they're so fun to eat, so delish and so messy. but last year i found pomegranate 7up. sure it was like 150 cals. per can but i didnt care. it was the most wonderful soda i'd had, and i'd given up diet coke from oct-dec while it was in stores. SURE my mom gave me a hard time for drinking a "regular" soda...but honestly its so awesome. well...monday i went to smiths late at night cause i was a bit lonely and missed wandering stores late at night and this is what i found!

HOLLLLAAAA! the best soda in the world! i've bought 6 packs so far and have put everyone on notice that if they feel like picking up more for me they should. so...now i'm putting this online... I LOVE DIET POMEGRANATE 7up! I WILL ACCEPT GIFTS OF THIS WONDERFUL SEASONAL DRINK! (please notice they further pulled me in by adding snowflakes...i'm a sucker for snowflakes. if i could have tattoos most likely i'd have a storm of these on me. probably too much info but hey...it's a blog not a column in the NYT)

i encourage all of you to try this stuff out and hopefully they'll keep making it next year!!!

i will live here someday.

i love heber/midway utah. it's the most beautiful place to me. every season is just un-real. today was no exception. i may be going through a bit of a slump with life, but for the hour i was in heber today i forgot it.

when i'm feeling down...

i start creating a fictional world which my fictional self would live in.

basically i go to my favorite sites (skiing sites, jcrew, anthro) and i pick out my dream wants. then i create a fun little folder on my desktop and drop all these images in. while making this folder i listen to sad/flashback music that helps me get through this low point.

thank you jcrew for always being there. and thank you freeskier for having such a great site/magazine.

atleast fall is here. the leaves are changing.

i am putting this on my dream list. NAY my MUST DO list.

this is perfection.

OK...here is my 4th of july/seattle post.

4TH OF JULY 2009 WAS ABSOLUTELY PERFECT

really i'm not lying, i loved every second. But if i have to list my top 5 favorite things i did last week the list shall go like this.

5) Going to Poulsbo with momma, mad, and carol. i LOVE this place. its sooooo fun.
4) Going golfing with my dad on the 3rd of july...best round of golf i've ever assisted on. although it might have to do with me falling in love with one of the guys that my dad was playing against (his name is Joe, he's 27 and SO PERFECT FOR ME...)
3) Eating at Docs
2)Surprising the family by showing up 2 days early ( i will never ever forget maddi screaming and my mom just standing there staring at me like i was a ghost. i LOVE SURPRISES)
1) THE ENTIRE DAY OF THE 4TH OF JULY. EVERYTHING FROM MAKING/EATING THE BEST FOOD EVER FOR HOURS, TO SETTING OFF FIREWORKS FOR A SOLID 5 HOURS. YEAH. THERE WASNT A BAD MOMENT. not a single one. i hope i never ever forget that day!

So i didnt take alot of pictures...but here are some of my faves from the weekend.

yay for the 4th!!!!!!

week 5

its been 5 weeks since i moved here?? really? wow. ok well i will soon post pictures from the best 4th ever. really. it has solidly landed in my #2 spot for fave holidays. (we all know what my #1 is. and if you dont. please stop reading my blog. or reference Jenny's blog)

i'm really excited that i've come this far this summer. i really thought that this summer would be so different back in april. and although there have been ups and downs at the end of the day...i know i'm so lucky to be here. I'm blessed to have such a loving family and really some of the best friends in the world. i really miss a couple of you too much. (so much that i hacked into an online poll to swing possible moving outcomes.)

ok...i got a bit sappy...maybe i'm really this tired. literally today in a meeting at 5 i was getting excited about trying to go to bed at 9pm. too bad i didnt get home till 10 and i'm totally not settled yet. I guess i'll have to watch another episode of Merlin (really this show is great) or one of the many other fantastic summer shows. ive kinda watched SYTYCD but its hard to get into the show when half the time its buffering. i miss tv people. i really do. other weird think i miss. CUCUMBERS. WHAT?!!? yes this is true. i usually NEVER crave veggies...but right now i want cucumbers in vinegar so bad i can taste it.

ok the rambling must stop. so i leave you with this recommendation...

start listening to Raphael Saadiq. he is fantastic and his new album is amazing.

22 days till SLC

Summer

I think it's here. Hopefully. It's really hot here. I'm a bit torn because I'm excited to wear my summer clothes, but not excited to melt in them.
Here's to hoping it stops raining where everyone is!

How come nobody told me!?

THAT CHICAGO HAS THE BEST FOOD IN THE U.S.
(i'm saying the U.S. because european food is on another level)

Friday was an awesome eating experience starting with lunch at the Nordstrom Cafe (which really felt like home, that store has special meaning to me...most likely because of what my mother has taught me)
Dinner was also amazing, although i'm sure part of my love for the meal was due to the fact i was SOAKED TO THE BONE from walking a mile in the pouring rain...it was unreal...i've never been that soaking wet before!
Ed's is one of the funnest burger places i've been to! the waiters/waitresses treat you rude as a part of the "show" and periodically will start dancing on the tables. Its all just great.

Funny story...when we walked in to Ed's it was literally 50 degrees and that meant immediate onset hypothemia, not to mention it took them awhile to be rude to us because we were so soaked and pathetic looking. the busboys gave me a stack of napkins and motioned to use it on my hair because it was dripping on the floor.

this weekend there were TWO food fests (Taste of Greece and Taste of Randolf Street)
choosing between these fests was quite difficult...because from what i can tell...there is NO BAD FOOD AT CHICAGO FESTS. and really..this weekend was just prep for the BIG EVENT...Taste of Chicago words can not describe how excited i am for this weekend and the week following. I just wish maddi was here to experience it because i know she'd die of happiness.

Anyways, so we settled on Taste of Randolf and it was awesome. I had alot of delicious food that really made me wish i had the metabolism of a teenage boy. My favorite taste was the kebobs, only because the fresh tuna taco i had was so flaming hot that tears came to my eyes.

Saturday night was quite an adventure that ended with another super fun food spot Billy Goat Tavern which was one of the coolest places i've been to. I felt like i'd stepped into a time warp.
This is a vid that some guy posted about what its like in there...
NO JOKE THIS GUY IS REAL

This place is a chicago GEM and was the inspiration for a SNL skit that is really impossible to find online. It has john belushi in it as a greek cook. he says "cheezborger cheeseborger cheeseborge" I've literally spent 15 minutes looking. It's super cool and i am sure i will be going back.

Sunday was yet another day of delicious...when we went to WOW (World of Wings) Literally best wings i've ever had! there are like 17 difference sauces ( my fave is Thai Peanut) and their sweet potatoe fries are unreal.

Ok i'm now totally embarrassed and am going to stop eating now.

chicago style

OK...so consider this my official post from Chicago. I've been non-stop crazy since i got here! Most of you know I'm at DDB Chicago and I really like it here. My first week was super busy, just the way i like it. Kara is my partner in crime out here and we each have our own little cubicles but we just yell over the wall between us. I of course have started to put up pictures and in the first 3 days i was here i rearranged my office about 6 times. (there was realllly bad lighting and i just can't stand that!) We work under and AWESOME C.D. Mark Westman. He's been really nice and showed us so much that i didn't even know went into producing ads.

UIC housing is great, i feel like I'm in a palace compared to the ihouse. its a new area and the place is only 3 years old. the funnest part is the Chicago interns have really bonded and we're basically a little family now. We play games every night (Sorry! and UNO) I've one ONE game of UNO and lost at Sorry! every time! the boys keep winning. Quite unfair!

I haven't really done too much exploring around here but last weekend was really fun, we went to a Art Fest in Old Town Chicago and it was quite the event. One of the things I've really started to love about Chicago is how much this city likes to celebrate things. there are festivals every weekend and people are really nice and inviting. Not to mention the FOOD IS AMAZING. I'm quickly learning that Chicago is a food town and EVERYONE has an opinion about it. On Saturday i had some of the best polish food I've ever had. There were so many options but when i saw the old ladies cookin up polish sausage and pierokies my dad's voice was in my head basically SCREAMING at me to eat it. So i did. unbelievable. The Blues Fest was also going on, didn't spend as much time as i was hoping to there but really...such a cool place.

I work right across from the amazing Millenium Park which is really one of the most beautiful parks I've been to! There is so much to see and do every weekend and its soooo beautiful to look at from our ACD's office. The bean is still crazy cool to me.

This post is lengthy sorry, I'm at work and don't have pictures to post but i will soon! Miss you all!

can't help it.

these pictures are really my fave right now. i just pinned them on my wall in my little office! I really want to start giving my place a good vibe...any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Chicago is still ridiculously rainy and all i want to do is explore this place! This city is still a mystery for me. but i'm loving it. apparently i need to really get into food and sports...all chicagoians are.

Thank you NYC

Alright, this isn't my last post from nyc...but i just want to say thank-you to the wonderful weather gods that decided to make it nice here for the past few days. I've really been happier since the sun has started shining! This picture is pretty much what Bryant Park is like every SUNNY day and i love it. i will miss this park, the cute chairs, hula hoop girls, well dressed men, not so well dressed women, and the tree's. Thanks NYC

2nd to last saturday

well...this past week was really a rough one, and as my days here in NYC are down to single digits i really want to pack in alot of good times in to these final hours...well...TODAY DIDN'T DISAPPOINT!

Really, today was just great. Woke up to blue skies (finally...after weeks of bad weather) and it was just a sign! Some friends of mine have been going to the Wicked lottery everyday after work, usually I can't go because i work later than when the lottery is going, but today there was a matinee showing and hopes were high that maybe just maybe someone from the group would win. WELL...we didnt. nope, not a single name was called after we literally RAN to the theater and were the last cards in (i think).

So...figuring we shouldn't waste a day we went and walked around the Hells Kitchen Street Fair (very cool but very overwhelming) and then hit the real stores...like Macys (such a classic, i will always love that store the most) and Gap. My friend and i found quite cute outfits if we say so ourselves and then decided that we should try for the Wicked lottery again for the 8pm show. Getting to the theater super early it was quite crazy seeing the hordes of people line up.

Some of you may know how insanely hard it is to win the NYC Wicked lottery, literally 300 people were there for...26 tickets, i mean really...there are myths about how many times people have gone and won nothing. well...WE'RE SO NOT THAT STORY! My dear friends tommy and jessica have been going nightly for 2 weeks hoping to get tickets..and the magic ticket man finally called their names. YES BOTH OF THEM! so i got to go!!!! It was totally crazy and really...i'm still unsure how it all happened, some people have theories, but really...i dont care! IT WAS SO FUN! I haven't seen Wicked since the original cast and i LOVED it this time. I'm hooked all over again. Plus, being FRONT ROW isn't too shabby either!

Here is how close we were...

We couldnt stop smiling all night

Yeah, its rough when the speaker is right infront...not

We also ran into Creed from the Office and missed Obama's date night cruise by probably a block but today was just right.

Oh, and the subway ride home the 1st chair violinist noticed us...cause you know..we were in the front row, and he was TOTALLY cool and way psyched to talk to us! Gotta love the subway. I'll count him as one of my celeb sightings on the subway (previous sightings include: Cynthia Nixon and Jaslene)

We finished the night off right with pinkberry and a nice walk through riverside park.

Sorry this is alittle wordy, not usually my style, but i just can't help it! Great day!

the big reveal

ok...so i know i teased about this awhile ago...but i just wasnt ready to tell everyone...now i am!

I'M MOVING TO CHICAGO ON JUNE 7TH TO INTERN AT DDB!!!!

this was totally unplanned but i'm really just so blessed and excited to go. Every day I go back on forth on if i'm ready for this...but i know deep down i am. this is such a great opportunity and there are just so many pluses to going. I get to hang with more of my fave ad people, work for a fantastic agency, live in a totally new city (i know...shocking that i havent been to chicago before...but its true!), and my favorite professor Kevin Kelly is going to be there! Really...its just such a cool thing.

so i will be in chicago from June 7th till....August TBD

if any of you guys have suggestions on places to go tell me! the few things i know about chicago are:
-rookie of the year was filmed there
-they've got pizza
-adventures of babysitting was filmed there
-there's a lake which means theres a beach right?
-it's in Illinois

yeah...those are really all i've got...ok i'm sure i know more...and yes i've been googling...but really how much can i trust from what i've read. every time i talk to people about chicago they're like..."Oh Chicago! It's so great! Great city! Hate the winters...they're horrible. Good luck!"

like i said...any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated

HOME IS WHERE THE MTNS ARE...and my family

Happy Memorial Day all...i'm not really sure if i've ever really appreciated this holiday as much as i should...but after this year...i will always remember it!

My wonderful father whom i love more than anything got me tickets to come home for the long weekend and really i couldnt be happier! I flew in on thursday night (worst flight of my life but really i just cant relive that that experience cause i may get alittle too graphic and this is a family blog..but trust me people...it was the LONGEST most FOUL SMELLING flight of my life)

Once home i got to just spend the whole time with the fam, eating more than i have in weeks, loving being in a car, and shopping till my bank account hates me. I really loved every second of being home and really fell in love with utah more. i'm really sad i wont be there this summer. it was so green and pretty, and mtns just call to me. I really really really hope i can get some hiking in this fall. Instead of giving a hour by hour account of what i did at home i'll just list off the big activities
-3 movies in 4 days (Star Trek, Night at the Museum, Angels and Demons)
-Shopping at 3 malls and my HOME Target
-Never ending free diet coke
-Amazing food at every meal, and enough that i was full...after every meal!
-J.CREW OUTLET...tears are in my eyes just thinking about it
-Memorial Day flowering of graves
-Sunday Dinner...live lobsters and clams...A-MAZ-ING
-free diet coke
-laying on the couch
-doing yardwork...and no mom you cant hold this against me
-sleeping in my own bed
-eating the worlds best cakeballs made by my sister kristin (ok she's not a BLOOD sister...but she's darn close!)

see...i could really keep going forever...but i really loved being home.

I was horribly sad to leave since it'll be a long time since i see them again, and i wont be back in utah till august.

sorry this is so wordy and no pictures...but i just didnt have time to take pictures this time...but i'll post a picture of my moms amazing yard..and the beautiful peonies!! LOVE YOU FAM!

back in action...

OK...so let me catch you up since the last time i talked to you....

1.my internship...the same. totally the same. nothing really major to report other than i cant believe how time moves there.

2. OK so a couple Saturdays ago a friend invited me along to help out at a Ragnar Relay Series race...and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! and I didn't even participate! But ladies and gents...let me tell you...I WILL ASAP! The race was the brain-child of 2 super awesome guys who just love running in awesome locations and they're just expanding like crazy. I also LOVE the whole way the race is set up. The race is around 200ish miles which are run by teams of 12! How cool is that?! Each person takes different sections and its amazing, oh and you run it non-stop...which means running in the middle of the night...early in the morning...high off adrenaline...followed by vans and your 11 closest friends! CMON...COOL RIGHT?! Yeah...basically I can't wait to get a team together and take on one of these mother-of-all races. (my goal is Wasatch Back 2010) also by me announcing this on my blog it makes it real...and serious. So ya'll know that i'm gonna do this...and i dont wanna be called a liar! ALSO...if you wanna be on a team LET ME KNOW! I promise it'll be the funnest/most painful thing ever but sooooo rewarding. Plus...i'm thinking a kick-a team name/tshirts/possibly costumes will be apart of this team thing! here are some pictures for Ragnar NYC 09

the reward for finishing...i may or may not have one of these...

funny story about the next picture...for about 2 hours ali and i were about 1/4 a mile from the finish line and we'd radio in the teams that were coming in...and honestly...we were kinda bored...but right behind us was the Van Cordtland house...some historical place where people were in period costumes shooting off muskets and guns. Here is a great pic. but when they were shooting there were some 8 yr old boys about 200 yards away and everytime they'd shoot the blanks a boy would pretend he got shot and drop down on the ground. I laughed every time. Ali and i also got creative while sitting out there and would call in each team with different accents...which lead to original raps from the Ragnizzle Productshizzle...yeah...it was a blast.
